The Lokayukta Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday concerning the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment issue, as reported by PTI.

This action follows a recent directive from a special court in Bengaluru, which instructed the Lokayukta to investigate allegations of irregularities in the allocation of 14 sites valued at ₹56 crore to the chief minister’s wife, Parvathi, by MUDA. The special court, designated to handle criminal cases involving former and current MPs/MLAs, mandated the Lokayukta police in Mysuru to commence an inquiry based on a complaint lodged by RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna. This order was issued after the Karnataka High Court upheld Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval to investigate Siddaramaiah in this matter.

On September 24, Justice M Nagaprasanna of the single judge high court bench stated that while a governor typically acts on the advice of the Council of Ministers under Article 163 of the Constitution of India, there are exceptional circumstances where the governor may make independent decisions, and this case exemplifies such a situation. Consequently, Siddaramaiah’s petition was dismissed.

Siddaramaiah has expressed his determination to remain in office, asserting on Friday that he will not resign as chief minister.

“I have committed no wrongdoing. This is the first time a political case has been filed against me. It is a political case, and I emphasize that,” PTI quoted the veteran Congress leader as stating.

When questioned about the BJP’s protests calling for his resignation, Siddaramaiah responded, “Why should I resign? If someone has done wrong, they should resign. Since we maintain that no wrongdoing has occurred, there is no basis for resignation.”

In the midst of the MUDA controversy, the Karnataka government announced on Thursday the withdrawal of general consent previously granted to the CBI for investigating cases within the state, citing allegations of bias against the federal agency.
