Mahadev app promoter Chandrakar is likely to be extradited to India in the near future

Mahadev app promoter Chandrakar is likely to be extradited to India in the near future. Sourabh Chandrakar, along with fellow app promoter Ravi Uppal, was apprehended in that country late last year after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) sought the issuance of a Red Notice (RN) against them.

Sourabh Chandrakar, a key figure behind the Mahadev betting application, is anticipated to be returned to India shortly following his recent formal arrest in Dubai, which was executed based on an Interpol-issued arrest warrant related to a money laundering and fraud investigation, as reported by official sources on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Chandrakar, along with fellow promoter Ravi Uppal, was apprehended in Dubai late last year after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested the issuance of a Red Notice against them.

According to sources, Chandrakar is likely to be extradited or deported to India within the coming days after his formal arrest in Dubai.

The ED has asserted that its investigation into the Mahadev Online Book (MOB) gaming and betting application has revealed the involvement of several high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh, the home state of both Chandrakar and Uppal.

The federal agency claims that the MOB app operates as a comprehensive syndicate facilitating online platforms for illegal betting websites, enabling user registration, creating user IDs, and laundering money through a complex network of proxy bank accounts.

To date, the ED has arrested a total of 11 individuals in connection with this case and has filed two charge sheets, including one against the two promoters.

The agency estimates that the proceeds of crime in this matter amount to approximately ₹6,000 crore.

In its charge sheet, the ED alleges that Chandrakar married in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, in February 2023, with around ₹200 crore reportedly spent in cash for the occasion.

The agency claims that private jets were utilized to transport Chandrakar’s relatives from India to the UAE, and celebrities were compensated to perform at the wedding. Furthermore, it has been alleged that the purported illegal funds generated by the app were distributed as bribes to politicians and bureaucrats in the state, prompting the agency to summon numerous celebrities and Bollywood actors for inquiries regarding their payment methods and connections to the online betting platform.
