The Election Commission of India has declared that the by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala is scheduled to take place on November 13.
The Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday that the by-election for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala is scheduled for November 13. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the general secretary of the Congress party, is poised to make her highly anticipated electoral debut in Wayanad, a constituency that became vacant when her brother, Rahul Gandhi, opted to retain the Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh after winning both seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Priyanka Gandhi’s candidacy signifies a new phase for the Congress party in Kerala. In June, the Congress leadership decided to nominate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for Wayanad, with the announcement following a meeting of the party’s senior officials at the residence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge in the national capital on June 17.
Although Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been engaged in political activities since 1999, initially supporting her mother Sonia Gandhi in Amethi, she has yet to contest an election herself.
