Sanju Samson has expressed to head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma his desire to participate in Test cricket for India. However, there are specific conditions that need to be met.
Sanju Samson remains hopeful about making his Test debut for India, despite not yet securing a position in the white-ball teams. The wicket-keeper batsman, who recently achieved his first T20I century against Bangladesh, has openly expressed his aspiration to represent the nation in red-ball cricket. He has already discussed his ambitions with the leadership team, including head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma, both of whom reportedly view Samson as a promising candidate for Test cricket.
In a recent interview with Sportstar, Samson conveyed his confidence in his ability to excel in red-ball cricket, while awaiting an opportunity from the BCCI selection committee. “I am convinced that I possess the necessary skills to thrive in red-ball cricket, and I do not wish to limit myself to white-ball formats. My goal is to play Test cricket for India. Prior to the Duleep Trophy, the leadership group informed me that they were considering me for red-ball cricket and encouraged me to take it seriously by participating in more Ranji Trophy matches,” Samson stated.
The Indian batsman performed admirably in the recent T20I series against Bangladesh, scoring a century in the final match. He credited captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir for the support and freedom they provided him.
“Surya is an effective communicator, and he clearly articulates his expectations from the players. He is a strong leader, and the players have faith in him. Gautam bhai has consistently supported and believed in me. When you have a coach who has confidence in your abilities, it makes playing cricket a more enjoyable experience,” Samson remarked.
