Payal Kapadia commended Laapataa Ladies, describing it as “a fun, wonderful movie.” She expressed her satisfaction as an audience member regarding the film. Although her own film, All We Imagine As Light, was not chosen as India’s official submission for the Oscars, she has indicated her intention to consider submitting it independently. In an interview with Times of India, Payal also discussed Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, which has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars.
Reflecting on the significance of Oscar recognition, Payal remarked, “Cannes provided us with considerable attention in India, and the most rewarding aspect is that this recognition facilitated distribution. There is no greater joy than having your film screened in theaters, where audiences can purchase tickets to view it. I have dedicated my life to supporting films that resonate with me. The desire for people to experience a film in cinemas or at film festivals is the very reason we pursue filmmaking.”
