Sharda Sinha, a celebrated folk singer and recipient of the Padma Bhushan award, passed away this evening due to complications related to cancer. She was 72 years old. The esteemed artist had been receiving treatment at the oncology department of AIIMS Delhi since October 25. In 2017, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that impacts the bone marrow. Ms. Sinha was placed on a ventilator and succumbed to refractory shock caused by septicemia.
Her son shared a heartfelt message, stating, “Your prayers and love will always be with mother. She has been called by Chhathi Maiya to her side.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Ms. Sinha, noting, “The echo of her melodious songs associated with the great festival of faith, Chhath, will always remain,” as he expressed his condolences.
