The Supreme Court, on November 11, rejected a petition submitted by suspended Janta Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna, who sought bail in connection with allegations of rape and sexual assault. The case was reviewed by a bench comprising Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Revanna, contended that the complaint did not reference the offence under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (rape), stating, “The complaint does not address the Section 376 issue.”
Justice Trivedi subsequently noted that there were multiple additional complaints to consider.
“The chargesheet has now been filed. I was overseas, but I returned and surrendered. The chargesheet is now in place. Previously, I served as an MP and contested for the position again, but I lost due to these circumstances,” Rohatgi stated.
“Dismissed,” Justice Trivedi responded. “Can I submit an application after six months?” Rohatgi inquired. “We are not making any statements,” Justice Trivedi replied.
On October 21, the Karnataka High Court rejected both the regular bail and anticipatory applications of Revanna.
A single judge, Justice M Nagaprasanna, had reserved the decision regarding the bail applications after hearing from the involved parties.
